Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) Services
At Westech Inspection, Inc., our Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) services are performed by certified quality technicians trained in multiple inspection methodologies. Our team supports and complements our API inspection programs, including API 570 (Piping), API 653 (Storage Tanks), and API 510 (Pressure Vessels), as well as other mechanical integrity services.
By integrating NDE directly into our inspection workflow, we ensure examinations are properly selected, accurately performed, and fully aligned with applicable codes and standards.
Ultrasonic Testing
Ultrasonic testing is used to obtain accurate wall thickness measurements on steel and other metallic surfaces.
Applications Include:
Corrosion monitoring
Remaining life calculations
Condition assessment of piping, vessels, and tanks
Verification of minimum required thickness
UT allows for precise thickness trending over time, supporting mechanical integrity programs and fitness-for-service evaluations.
PT Testing
Liquid penetrant testing is used to detect surface-breaking defects in non-porous materials.
Commonly Used For:
Weld inspections
Crack detection
Surface flaw identification
Inspection of stainless steel and non-magnetic materials
PT is a highly sensitive method for identifying fine surface cracks that may not be visible to the naked eye.
MT Testing
Magnetic particle testing (wet and dry methods) is used to detect surface and near-surface discontinuities in ferromagnetic materials.
Applications Include:
Weld seam inspections
Crack detection in structural components
Examination of pressure-containing parts
Detection of fabrication or in-service flaws
MT is particularly effective for identifying cracking in carbon steel welds and seams.
VT Testing
Visual inspection is the foundation of all mechanical integrity programs.
Services Include:
Detailed visual examination of industrial equipment
Weld inspections
Structural assessments
Bubble leak testing of seams and joints
When performed by trained and certified inspectors, VT is a powerful tool for identifying corrosion, distortion, misalignment, and other visible damage mechanisms.
Integrated with API Inspection Programs
Our NDE services are not performed in isolation. They are integrated directly into our API inspection services to ensure findings are properly interpreted within the context of:
-
Damage mechanisms
-
Code requirements
-
Remaining life assessments
-
Repair and alteration evaluations
This integrated approach provides clients with clear, actionable information rather than isolated test results.
